ARTWORKS

As a Latina navigating life in Texas, I embark on a continuous quest to unravel the layers of my identity. Juggling the roles of womanhood, motherhood, and wifehood, I find myself immersed in the complexities of societal constructs and personal truths.

At the heart of my artistic exploration lies a profound curiosity about the structures that shape our lives—both physical and metaphorical. Themes of femininity in a patriarchal society, the enigma of vanity, and the complexities of social expectations inspire my work, as I strive to illuminate the nuances of human emotion and mental landscapes.

Through my work I endeavor to bridge the gap between reality and imagination, inviting viewers to join me on a voyage of self-discovery and introspection.

ON FEMINISM

COLLAGES

  • My work explores subjects relating to the perception of reality; social constructs mainly affecting women; and my own identity. I explore these subjects through photography primarily of the female body, and architecture, as well as collages. I combine elements in a way that creates new connotations when in relation to one another. I like to approach my art pieces with humor producing somewhat absurd situations that provide an awkward comic relief. I am including with this application work of three different themes: Social constr-activism; Identity & feminism; and abstract and mixed media.

I am constantly figuring out my place in my surroundings, where I come from, how I fit and don’t, and what are the social constructs that are expected from me and from women in general.

My architectural-based projects started from a process of inquiry into the different materials and designs most buildings have here in Texas–and in the U.S. in general–especially in the suburban areas. There is a huge diversity in styles, influences, and shapes of buildings and houses around all the U.S. As I collected different buildings that caught my eye, keeping in mind time periods, cultures, materials, shape, color, and cultural influences, I started to notice a story of a new world, a micro planet. An impossible structure.
